Standard Stock Alnico Magnets

Excellent temperature stability, high residual induction and relatively high energy Alnico describing the materials, composed primarily of aluminum, nickel and cobalt. They are produced either by casting or sintering process. Cast magnets may be manufactured with complex shapes such as horseshoes, not possible with other magnetic materials. Alnicos sintered offer slightly lower magnetic properties but better mechanical characteristics of the jet Alnicos.

Cast Alnico 5 is the most commonly used of all the cast Alnicos. This material is used extensively in rotating machinery, meters, instruments, sensing devices, and holding applications, to name a few.

Alnico is hard and brittle. Drilling work or can not be accomplished by ordinary methods. Holes are usually cored in the foundry, and magnets are cast close to final size and then finish machined to closer tolerances.

Alnico has a low coercive force and is easily demagnetized if not handled carefully. Optimal performance of Alnico 5, the magnetic length should be about 5 times the diameter or equivalent diameter. For example, 0.250 "diameter magnet would be approximately 1.250" long.

Because of its higher coercivity, Alnico 8 may be used in shorter lengths and in disc shapes.

Alnico magnets are manufactured through either casting or sintering processes.

Cast magnets are made by pouring molten alloy into a mold, then to meet others through different heat treatment cycles. The resulting magnet has a dark gray appearance, and may have a rough surface. machined surfaces have a shiny appearance similar to steel.

sintered magnets are the concentration of fine dust Alnico key and then sintering the compressed powder magnetic solid.

We are able to manufacture metal components and other sub-units are finished using our CNC machining facilities.

The kits can be prepared according to adhesive magnets suitable for a variety of environments, mechanical fastening magnets, or a combination of these methods. The relatively fragile nature of magnetic materials, press fits are not recommended.

The corrosion resistance of Alnico is considered excellent, and no need for surface treatments. However, Alnico magnets are easily plated for cosmetic reasons, if necessary.

Alnico is hard and brittle, and prone to chipping and cracking. Special machining techniques must be used to address this matter. The holes must be prepared by EDM methods. We are fully equipped to machine these materials to your specification plan.

Alnico magnets require magnetizing fields of about 3 test. Because of their relatively low coercivities particular care to ensure that these magnets have a repellent to the negative areas, since it could partially demagnetize the magnets. magnetized magnets must be kept eepers  reduce the possibility of a partial demagnetization. If Alnicos partially demagnetized, can be easily remagnetized.

Up to about 1,000 F, the variations of the magnetization largely reversible and re-magnetic, while changes in this is largely structural and not fully reversible or re-magnetic. About 90% of magnetization at room temperature is maintained at temperatures up to 1,000 F.

Cast alloy materials of steel in general, contain the flow of holes and cracks in the material. These can be made by painting and decorating. The following is an excerpt from the MMPA standards for these deficiencies:

These materials are used primarily for their magnetic properties are magnets for the mechanical properties. These materials are produced in a good practice in the metallurgical nature inevitably contains a degree of physical imperfection. It is not generally recommended that these materials may be used for structural or decorative purposes unless the physical requirements of the magnet is already properly defined.

All values are approximate and drag are only available for comparison. They were measured when the polar surfaces in contact with a 1 / 2 "thick, soil, mild steel plate. Due to the nature of magnetism, it is very difficult to establish a peacekeeping force of some for all applications. We propose that each customer make his own tables to slide on a real model.
